Perspective - Believers and Unbelievers

So over the weekend, wife and I had a very serious talk with two of my close friends who would be getting married in November, and following the wedding, the husband might be posted to the US to work for 3 years, only with 18 days of leave per year. They couldn't decide what to do, and were in a dilemma on what they should do. My buddy, K, wants to have children and doesn't want to postpone the plan for 3 years, but she is insistent that she will not move to the USA. The hubs, D, is afraid that without his presence in Singapore, the relationship will fall apart and he would lose her. Yet he also really wants to go as it appears that this US base will be closing, and this is the last batch of technicians who would have the chance to go for the training.

The response from my cell group members, and response from other who weren't in church were very different.

My cell group members said, it seems alright to go, long-distance relationships can work out if parties make effort to maintain it. As I prayed for them, I reminded them that a three-fold cord is hard to break, if God is in the center of their relationship, He would help them overcome every obstacle in their way.

My office colleagues said, oh, surely will end up badly, immediately after wedding the husband shouldn't stay away from the wife for so long.

The response with faith, and the response without faith.

And then the Lord spoke to me, without faith, it is impossible to please God.

That doesn't just apply to my friends' situation, but also to my situation. When I make decisions, do I do it by faith or only with human intellect and consideration? I seriously had to ponder a moment when I asked myself, when was the last time I asked God for faith, when I stepped out in faith in spite of the situation, and looked at things from God's perspective?

Too often, I let the things of the world blind me from seeing things from God's perspective. One of the most important things is to always read the Word, because the entire Bible, even if written by man, was inspired by God, and contains principles which Christians ought to live by, it provides examples of people who lived by faith and by every word of the living God.

God I pray that I am able to see things through Your eyes, to be line with Your thoughts, to walk in Your will, to hear Your voice when You speak, and at the same time, remain relevant to people around me, to be a problem solver and peacemaker. Holy Spirit, help me discern the things unseen, and help me make a difference to the things that are seen.

In Matt 4:4, Jesus says "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."
